Renovations & Remodeling
Remodeled Stairs

Many clients look into a home remodel because they want a different “look and feel”. However, most cosmetic changes to a home also require structural remodeling once the space and mechanical needs are evaluated. Sterling Homes’ 25 years of experience in building and providing retrofits for homes and commercial spaces can provide solutions to tight spaces, damaged or older properties, unused attics or basements, or those just in need of an update. This remains true whether you live full-time in Eagle County, own a second home in the Vail and Beaver Creek resort community, or are looking for commercial space.

Structural Renovations and Remodeling

Sterling Homes has designed and completed many one-of-a-kind or unique renovations in this resort community. A few examples of the many kinds of structural remodeling projects completed in the last few years:

  • transformed unused attics, basements and crawl spaces into bedrooms, living spaces and baths;
  • retrofitted balconies to become living space;
  • updated and expanded kitchens large and small;
  • extended roofs and walls for large additions;
  • revised stairwells for aesthetic and safety purposes;
  • installed new driveway snowmelt systems; and
  • rebuilt decks and patios, adding landscaping.

Cosmetic Renovations and Functional Improvements

Cosmetic changes seem easier to accomplish than structural remodeling, though the key to customer satisfaction is in the details. At Sterling Homes we listen closely to client preferences and work together to select the best designs, products, services and solutions. If the client is satisfied, we can do our job.

Cosmetic changes might include:

  • retrofitting older baths with steam showers, saunas, low-flow toilets, updated faucets;
  • creating closet designs in small spaces;
  • painting finishes (e.g, faux, textural washes),
  • adding wall texture (e.g., paneling, tile);
  • putting in new custom kitchen or bathroom cabinets;
  • changing flooring (e.g., carpet, tile);
  • providing security alarms and other measures for privacy needs;
  • updating or relocating AC/ heating to accommodate space needs;
  • or a number of other options.

As the renovation project gets underway, you would be asked to make many decisions about options for cosmetic and structural change that would affect your project’s character and appearance.

Process of Remodeling Construction

Sterling Homes has a fairly standard process for a home remodel. Once design plans are accepted and a contract is signed, your personal belongings are organized and moved from the affected area (with our help if needed). Demolition of the space occurs to remove all unneeded materials. Mechanical contractors are brought in to establish new electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Following any rough carpentry that would occur, skilled craftsmen complete their scheduled work, in an orderly sequence (e.g., drywall, tile, flooring, painters), then cabinets and countertops are installed if planned. Plumbers and electricians reenter, then millwork, fixtures and other finish work is completed. This is summarily what you could expect if you decide to choose a custom remodeling project with Sterling Homes.
